The Mid-Year Reset: Questions to Ask Yourself to Find Out What the First Half of 2025 Taught You
Do you feel as though the goals you set for yourself in January have become complete strangers to you? Or maybe you are still putting energy into them, but the energy feels misplaced as you are not making the progress you hoped to make by now.
If this sounds familiar, it may be time for you to do A Mid-Year Reset.
A Mid-Year Reset is a chance to look at any goals you set for yourself with a renewed vision of who you are and where you want to be by the end of the year. A big part of The Mid-Year Reset is reflection, but it isn’t necessarily about reflecting in a nostalgic sense. It is reflecting in a way that will enable you to do a strategic reset to align yourself with what you want to pursue going forward.
It is easy to overlook how many subtle shifts or learning opportunities arise in just six months. This post guides you through a short reflection exercise that will help you extract value from what has already happened in the year and apply it to the next six months.
When looking at learning opportunities, I have personally experienced a fair few setbacks during these first six months of the year, but these have shaped my resilience and redirected my focus in huge ways. I have had to adapt in ways I could never have imagined and only recently felt the impact of this increase in resilience when I decided to take a day trip that pushed me out of my comfort zone.
For the more subtle shifts, I have learnt to appreciate the small wins and increased consistency during the first half of the year. I have often found myself falling victim to wanting to get it all done as soon as possible and tick the goal or task off, but stacking my small wins and staying consistent has helped me make bigger progress than I could have ever imagined.
Growth won’t always make a big song and dance to let you know it is here. It shows up in how you respond, what you tolerate and where you begin to feel yourself getting uncomfortable.
When reflecting during this midpoint of the year, you will want to focus on what has been going well, what you have learnt about yourself, what has been challenging, and what you need to change or release.
I have put some journal prompts below that will help you work through this reflection exercise:
· What progress have I made, even if it wasn’t planned?
· What challenges did I face, and how did I handle them?
· What habits or patterns have emerged that surprised me?
· In what ways am I showing up differently?
· What am I holding onto that I have outgrown?
These questions are an opportunity to gain clarity, and with clarity, you will gain confidence. Confidence around where you have been, what you have experienced and learnt and that confidence can be used to help you reset with intention and set yourself up for the rest of the year. Any insights you gather during this period of reflection will help you feel more aligned and grounded in the decisions you make around your goals.
The point of a Mid-Year Reset isn’t to completely overhaul any goals you previously set. It is an opportunity to review them, reflect and realign with who you are now and where you want to go.
Take some time to reflect using these journal prompts and see what comes through for you. You may just have some breakthroughs that make the rest of 2025 your most intentional and rewarding period yet.
